Has anyone tried acc+ streaming with p2pstreamer? Winamp will decode it as an external player(as do real and QT), but will streamer broadcast it from an encoder? Shoutcast, icecast, and others are supporting it as servers too. M$ has not yet given up on wma but this is so good they will have to soon.
For those of you how have not heard the future of internet streaming here is a site that list acc+ streams for you to listen to. CD quality at 48K FM at 32k!! Wow it sounds good. Iain you need to check this out and report your Plans please. We Will be switching to acc+ V2 next month when SAM3 releases their encoder. Orban already has one for sale under $200
If you just use winamp for your broadcast. This is the sound/bitrate combo we have all been dreaming about.

I'm not knocking aac+ but I'm curious if / when was the last time you tried or listened to ogg vorbis?

not even close. go listen to the acc+ streams, 125 stations already. I started with a ogg vorb stream but moved to mp3pro as that was part of the sam2 package. (simple, done). but this HE acc+ (NOT plain acc) is just wow! a 48K stream sounds better than 128 mp3pro. Everyone is adding support except M$, still quiet there.(big mistake)

While I haven't yet heard aac+ in action I have read a little about the format and it is based on the same concept as mp3pro; fake high frequencies. Just to inform everyone like me not previously aware of the format.

the "fake frequencies" are called SBR.

spectral band replication

It is still fake, and you can hear the fakeness under some circumstances.
What I think it does is encodes a frequency envelope, measuring the amplitudes of the high frequencies, and the player filters white noise using this envelope to reproduce the high freqency spectrum. Since most high frequencies are usually noise (cymbals, snare etc) this works ok, and does indeed sound good at very low bitrates. But if you get a high frequency in the source that is constant and not random, it comes out at the other end noisy, you can hear it is filtered noise rather than a reproduction of the actual source. mp3/ogg etc try to enccode the actual frequencies present in the source.
So 'noise shaped' encoding systems are better than 'normal' systems at very low bitrates, where a normal system doesn't cope very well. But normal systems are better at higher bitrates.

I find it quite odd that I could find no easy way to get a codec for my old Winamp (which I refuse to give up on this system because of the increased overhead of the new one) so I can listen to the new aac+ for myself. I spent about 15 minutes looking around and then just gave up.
