Hello,

At Windows XP with Winamp broadcasting is no problem, but I prefer to work in Linux (I have the Ubuntu distribution).

Is broadcasting under Linux possible in any way, or will this be planned in the future to work may be?

Thanks in advance for the answer,

Greetings, Aeolus.

Hi,
i run streamer under Ubuntu using wine. Works perfect so far but i only tried listening and not broadcasting.

http://www.streamerp2p.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=1993

I think it's no problem to connect any linux broadcasting application to streamer cause it's nothing linux specific. Unfortunately there is no streamer linux version at the moment. If i have time someday i'll try to broadcast under linux using streamer running under wine.

Hi Aeolus,

Did some research in linux too. Streamer under Wine works fine (listening) like d-tracks mentioned.
Under Windows I run SAM and the only aplication I found working with sceduled playrules was Rivendell.
Using Rivendell means for me that I have to rebuild the whole database, besides interpreting the tech-language I don't understand comletely.
Another thing is that have to use OSS, Creative didn't build a decent driver for X-Fi soudcard I use.
Using the Jack soundserver, it must be possible to connect to Streamer.

Succes!

Hello Wunjo,

Do I understand you rightly you're using the program Rivendell under Linux, I suppose I can download it?

Under Linux I first tried Winamp with Wine, but that doesn't work well, also the oddcast plugin gave problems to install.

Can you tell me more about SAM too, works that better than Winamp under Windows?

Thanks and greetings, Aeolus.

Hi Aeolus,

I don't use the Rivendell applic. I use linux only twice a month, trying to escape my windows dependency :D
To me it looks like Rivendell is a too big project this time, takes a lot of time to understand it and to make the preparations. Also audio on linux doesn't works the way I want it.
SAM Broadcaster works more like a DJ set, more players, dynamic playlist, mic option, more info can be found on the site of SpacialAudio and on this forum.

Good Luck!

see: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=version&iId=11411

Q'fusus he say:

I love nothin better than to watch the treads that devalop when someone asks if

If) There will ever be a build of streamerP2P which coud run as a Linux application

The real truth is:: (greatly simpified, as I see it) NEVER

mainly because its creator (ie Iain,)
dispete many previous offers, remains reluctant to share the code wth a 3rd party.

There is no reason why the basic software engine (that is streamerp2p)
could not be ported (ie built) as a Linux Terminal Application

THe main software problem preventing this happening,
would be remove its dependancy on the windows visual/grafical interface.

---
as for software to automate music playback (with next to zero cost)
why not try ZaraRadio 1.61 (the Free Version)

This is what Ive been using for the last 3 years to automate my station
without major problems.

Personally its my beleft that Zara can not be beaten (and I tried virtually everything else)
The automation/sheduling engine is easily the most powerful & flexible available
(even better than most payware)

Ho Yes reason why I state "(with next to zero cost)"
is to us it correctly on a PC with only a single soundcard (or no soundcards at all)
you need to purchase VAC (virtual Audio Cable), about 15 Euro's

why not give it a try

As a professional, I have to disagree about one thing - Zara radio is NOT the best possible - and, if you enable its streaming capabilities, it tends to "phone home" a lot - even when no stream is being connected to (it never shuts down, apparently - I had to kill it with Task Manager...)

The overall BEST automation playout system - rivalling the systems used by top radio stations, such as Broadcast Electronics' AudioVault system - is

Station Playlist Creator and Studio

http://stationplaylist.com/

For all the bells and whistles, it's less that $500US - and there are reduced functionality licenses that are less expensive (same program; the license you have determines what features are activated)

I'm running Radio X T Z with it - and there are also - besides several Internet stations - several BROADCAST stations using it as well!
