Just started broadcasting using Streamer, and noticed that at times I get disconnected. The station list seems to indicate that some others are having the same problem too, as those that are similarly affected pop up again in the 'on air' list. Is this a bug or something I'm doing wrong at my end, and is there an 'auto reconnect' feature we could use when this happens?

Also, why does the 'list' say I'm streaming at [up to] 70k-ish, when the Oddsock window says I'm +/- 50kbps? Which one is correct?

Cheers,

Bear.

PS There may not be many listeners, but for a therapeutic activity, this beats lobbing wires over trees - or clambering around on tower blocks!

Can you give us a little more Rock? Maybe some specs on the machine, your internet connection speed and type, what streaming DSP you are using... etc. Thanks.

You want a little more rock? Hey, that's why we're doing this ain't it? Great music you play by the way! :D Okay, P4 2.4gHz 256mb, XP, 512/256 ADSL, Winamp for playout and followed the Ogg instuctions. Is that enough info?

Cheers,

Bear.

Well it's a start :)... is the DSP getting disconnected from Streamer? Most DSPs have a reconnect option somewhere in their configuration... but it shouldn't be doing that. There is another one that I know of that might be doing tha as well but as yet I haven't been able to put my finger on the cause.

I get a message on the streamer screen saying DSP 'isn't sending' or something like that, just a click on the Oddcast connect button and I'm connected again, so the DSP message isn't on the screen for long. Strangely enough, it's been okay yesterday & today.....

If you are getting the 'dsp isn't sending data' then it means that the dsp isn't sending any data to streamer to be broadcast. It takes Streamer 2 minutes to detect this, after which it will dump the stream and tell you about it (otherwise people leave empty streams going all day). You can reconnect oddcast and it will say broadcasting again, but if there is no data it will just drop again after 2 minutes.
The only known cause of this problem is when you are streaming files being played in winamp, and it runs out of files to play and stops. The dsp stays connected, but doesn't send anything.

There is another cause. Some WMA files are coded to not be sent to the DSP chain in Winamp due to DRM. I have not tried it but www.soundsolution.it is supposed to have an alternative WMA decoder that is supposed to not do that.

Ok chaps, thanks for the info. I'm playing mp3 files via Winamp, but sometimes the 'error' message pops up when mp3's are being played. However, it does seem more stable the past few days.

Thanks once again.

The 'dsp is not sending any data' error only happens in the situation where the dsp stays connected but sends nothing. If it 'just disconnects' (because of the networking stuff on the pc being written by micro$oft for example) then the broadcast just stops with no error. The fact that is seems to disconnect at the end of a song, and that I have heard the 'the please register sam2', on the 'alices restaurant' stream, indicates to me that maybe sam2 is doing something because it isn't registered?

My system seems quite stable now; I upgraded to 512mb of Ram and also downloaded a newer [I think] version of the Oddsock plug in. So far so good.
