I just want to say that I am very pleased with version 1.39 the streamer/player combo is great. I have been broadcasting old time radio shows from a win2000 933mhz box using streamer with the winamp shoutcast pkg.

And I've been monitoring from an old win95 p166mhz laptop, using the streamer 1.39/player combo... Plus occasionally tuning in via the conventional link from a linux box. WOW... NO lag time, oh by the way the laptop and linux box are on a different internet connection. So this gives me a true test as to what potential listeners will experience.

I broacast at 24kbits in mp3 streaming.... WOW.. outstanding quality of sound.

Lain you have really out done yourself with this pkg. Oh by the way I've had the stream up continuous since Aug 10th.. and the laptop is accessing via a wireless connection. So the connection speed varies.... But streamer still remains connected.....

Regards,
Clyde J. Kell

I've had streamer working in linux using wine, so you can listen that way as well.

should be at:

http://www.niftybits.ukfsn.org/wine-config.tar.gz

untar it to ~/.wine (or somewhere else first so you don't overwrite what you have.) I haven't used it for a month or two, so may not work with recent versions?

i had it running under wine with a simple

wine /tmp/installstreamer.exe (or where you download it)

and than

wine "c:\program files\streamer\streamer.exe"

(it's the fake windows enviroment from wine) normaly /home/{username}/.wine/fake_windows/Program Files
or something.

It works but after 2-3 hours streamer always crashes.
The internal player didn't work for me but with xmms it's no problem.

bye

Thanks for the tips... here's what I've discovered...
I can get streamer to load fine and actually relay/stream etc on a linux box running
CodeWeavers Crossover... which runs on wine.

However, the internal player will not play, the audio skips etc.. you can't make out whats
being played.

But I have not been successful in getting XMMS to work with streamer.

So any help or tips would be appreciated with the XMMS setup.

Regards,
Clyde J. Kell

Hi,
just open the stream url with xmms:

for mp3 streams: http://localhost:8000/streamermp3.mp3
for ogg streams: http://localhost:8000/streamerogg.ogg

8000 = default port. Change if you set another in streamer config.
localhost = 127.0.0.1 but xmms should resolve it.

The auto play doesn't work for me. Streamer can't open xmms. You can try to install winamp in wine too. I haven't tried this.

bye

Thanks for the info.. and push in the right direction. I don't know why I didn't think of it...
Oh Well.. It works.. I've been running streamer and listening to my station via p2p all day,
on a Linux box..

Next step.. maybe see if I can broadcast from the Linux box.... hmmmm

Any success storys? Please let us know if you manage to broadcast under wine. I think it should not be a problem but never tried it until now. Should work i think.
I still have the problem that streamer crashes after a while (~2 hours) under wine. It's not a crash of the wine enviroment. It's a crash from streamer with that message box "Streamer has crashed :-(..." and so on.

bye

If somebody could actually send me the crash message then it may be possible for me to fix it...

That isn't crashing in streamer's code unfortunately, so the cause remains unknown, sorry.

I have been running Streamer on linux successfully for several days on two different linux machines. Under, a wine based program called Cross Over Office by codeweavers. Using XMMS to listen to the stream... just fine!

However I have not tried broadcasting yet. Mostly because I have not been able to get a dsp to work properly with XMMS.

Not a major issue for now. Lain you've done a fine job...
