hi ,
I would like to know if it's possible to listen without installing streamer .
In fact I want users to listen directly , in winamp or wmp .
Is this doable with streamer ? Or do I need something else ?
thanks

Yes it is possible.
Streamer can broadcast in conventional client-server mode. But that rather defeats the whole point of the system. You will need a server with bandwidth for each listener so it costs a lot more if you get a lot of them, and there is an upper limit on their number. Using Streamer you don't need a high bandwidth server so it costs less, and there is no limit to listeners.
So conventional streaming is slightly easier for your listeners, but costs you money. Take your pick...
Streamer also has built in chat, and bunch of other features that are being developed that conventional streaming doesn't have. An activex version is on the way, so pre-SP2 users can install and listen without really being aware they are installing.

Well , I want something a little more specific .
I will have a Icecast Server , witch is the main stream .
Then I want some of my listeners to broadcast this stream with Streamer . (They are a little group)
But the important thing is for my end users , they don't have to install streamer in order to listen .
I know that they can listen directly from Icecast , and I also want then to be able to listen from a streamer , in order to save my bandwdth .
Is this possible ?
thanks

Well, sort of...
It sounds as if you want to use the Streamers as a cluster of extra conventional servers. They will need to allow conventional serving, and set a bandwidth % that allows at least one outgoing conventional stream (sorry the bandwidth use config is a bit of a mess). But you will still need a main broadcasting Streamer to feed the p2p stream to them, and to serve the .pls file that contains their IPs. This .pls will not include your main icecast server though, so you will effectively have two conventional streams: the icecast one, and the streamer cluster one. You could dump the icecast server and use the broadcast Streamer as the main conventional server, which would then have all the available conventional servers in one .pls served by Streamer.
This is all a bit complicated, and not what was really intended with conventional serving. It would be simpler just to have 2 listening links: one for the icecast server for your 'bush voting' users who can't manage to install things, and one for your more able 'kerry voting' users who can install Streamer, and just use streamer in normal p2p mode.
