Here's a How-To for displaying the current song information in HTML pages.

THIS IS REALLY FRUSTRATING! I have followed the instructions to the letter, inserted the codes in the correct place - It turns all my writing yellow and places it in some oscure place! Also, I cannot get to grips with the request page and where does CGI come into it?? Sorry for being a pain, but you know when you start something, and it doesn't go right, you have to finish it for your own sanity!!! HELP!!! PLEASE!!!

I'm assuming that this setup only works where you have "hands on" access to your own web server, right? I can't see how it would work with my site being hosted on a "rented" ISP's server.

The Songrequester is a mini webserver itself that runs as a plugin to WInamp. From that point you then point to it or embed the code to point to it from your public website, or you can just use it stand alone. If you have a firewall, the port you specify must be accessable to the world or it won't function.

For anyone that was looking for the tutorial that was nicely done by Planet Texas, he has now updated the link to it above and it should be working now.

My problem is still with the "yoursite" part of the URL http://www.yoursite.net:81/playlist.cgi. My local computer is on a small network connected to a wireless router. My web pages are hosted by a private ISP.

My internet connection is (luckily) through a DSL giving me a static IP address of 67.34.185.9 and the computer that has my Streamer on it has a LAN IP address of 192.168.0.100

So... If I make the call of http://127.0.0.1:81/playlist.cgi or http://localhost:81/playlist.cgi I can see the sample page. But these are ok if I use the same computer that has Streamer on it. If I make the call of http://192.168.0.100:81/playlist.cgi I get the sample page from other computers on my LAN.

BUT... how do I get people on the Internet to see it? If I enter http://67.34.185.9:81/playlist.cgi, I get the "page cannot be displayed" error. I need to figure out what URL that I will have to put in the frame on my page that is sitting on my ISP. Any ideas?

if youre behind a firewall, you will need to open port 81 to the machine running the plugin.

I ***thought*** that I had properly opened the firewall. In fact I think I have gone a littel overboard by opening from the LAN (the machine running the plugin) to the WAN - and from the WAN to the LAN (the machine running the plugin). Here's the screen shot:

If Idid this wrong, please give me a little guidance.

Thanks

You shouldn't have to open from the Lan to the WAN as that should work anyhow. I would not recommend to anyone that they use port 81 though as that could be being used by something else on your system. Maybe try 8080 and set it all up the same aside the LAN to WAN in the dlink there.

Problem Fixed - Maybe this will help others. Read on:

You're right about not needing LAN to WAN. I checked on the D-Link web site and it also said that all I needed was the WAN to LAN setting.

I tried changing the port to 8080 but the router complained that it was in use already. So I bumped it up to 8082. I can still bring up the sample page using http://192.168.0.100:8082/playlist.cgi or http://localhost:8082/playlist.cgi, which is fine for me to see that it's working on my side of the LAN. But I'm still having trouble figuring out how to get people on the Internet to get to it. I thought that using my static IP address would do it, but when I try http://67.34.185.9:8082/playlist.cgi all I got was "Cannot find server - Page cannot be displayed" errors.

I knew these settings for the Song Requester plugin were right, so I figured something has to be wrong with my static IP address. I called BellSouth, who provides me with my DSL and static IP address. They guy was sorta stumped as to why it didn't work, either. He admitted that he was just guessing as we tried a few things, but we found that we had an incorrect setting on the router for WAN settings - it was set for dynamic IP address. We switched it to PPPoE, rebooted the router & modem, and now it looks ok.

If someone was connected to the Internet via a cable modem that assigned a dynamic IP address instead of a static IP address, is there any way that they could use this plugin?

One last question - when I bring up playlist.cgi and I use the drop down box that says "- Choose an Artist -" sometimes I get doubles of the same artist. Each one has the exact same spelling/capitalization/punctuation and displays the exact same songs in the playback entry list when chosen. Is there something wrong with my WinAmp playlist?

For dynamic IP you'd have to setup an account with one of the dynamic DNS outfits like dyndns.org and then run an updater to update your IP address. SOme routers include this functionality but if not a small tray application can be run on one of the internal computers with good success. AFter that you would link to your song requester page with the URL of the dyndns that you setup. an example might be kmeat.dyndns.org:8082 or whatever port you set SR to use.

you'll may need to go through and clean up your MP3 tags. Use something like Tag&Rename (found on download.com) or a similar tool.
If that doesn't solve the problem you can edit your Winamp playlist and just remove the duplicates.

As to the dynamic IP address question. If someone with a dynamic IP registered with a dynamic DNS service (usually free. just search on DDNS) you could then use that domain name (i.e. http://www.myddnsname.com:your winamp port

No, maybe didn't explain this right. There aren't duplicates in the Winamp playlist, but the SongRequester is displaying as if there were duplicates. For example - SongRequester is saying that I have duplicates of a band called Dakota Fate and if you choose either selection of Dakota Fate, you get the same list of eleven songs. But if you check on my Winamp playlist (which I have online, use the "Playlist" link), there are indeed only one of each song.

The web site is http://westcoastpromoman.com/ and I have the duplicates issue with 5 bands (Dakota Fate, Freudian Slip, JBs Zydeco Zoo, Michael Pagan & Random Disorder) if you want to see what I mean.
