If I only want to broadcast to a select group of people that I know, is it possible for me to start the broadcast and send them the link and not have my station show up on the list of stations?

Sure. See http://www.streamerp2p.com/forum/viewto ... ight=hosts for how to keep from being listed in the YP listings and then read the broadcasting help sections of the web site and I think you will run across pretty quickly how to find the URL for your stream.

I don't really understand what "darkone" wrote, can you please explain to a newbie  ? I think understand how to get to the folder with the host (C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc) , but I have no idea what to do from there, the file named "host" - i dont know what type of file this is or how to open it to adjust it please give step by step, I really really appreciate it!

The file is named "hosts", with no extension. It's a plain text file which you can edit with Notepad. If the file does not exist you can create it using Notepad.

Notepad may insist on adding a .txt extension, i.e., hosts.txt, when you save the file. You must remove that extension, by renaming the file in windows explorer or by enclosing the filename in quotes when you save it in Notepad -- "hosts".

In Notepad you will add a single line to the file, as below:

Code:
127.0.0.1 yp.streamerp2p.com

thanks sleddog. I added the line and it works - the station does not show up on the list of stations on Streamerp2p.com. But it does show up in the the list of stations when the Streamer Player is open and you hit "list" - is there a way to get rid of it there as well or is that impossible if I wanna broadcast :?:

Alternatively, block streamer's tcp net access in your firewall. This will prevent it accessing the website to report it's station, but won't stop its normal UDP connections. This way you don't need to block the website from your entire PC as the hosts hack does.

I should be noted again here that blocking yp.streamerp2p.com in hosts does NOT block www.streamerp2p.com from being accessed on that machine.

......... and that non of the solutions stop your station from being listed in the List window of the application itself.

You used to be able to start the casting Streamer with a P=1 as a commandline parameter and cause it to do a private broadcast. You have to put that on the tuning URL too at the end. It was kinda dismissed because it's been found to still leak into the lists eventually. The new version WILL have a private casting system but I think it will be fee based. DOn't quote me on that though because I'm not totally sure about that yet.

Probably yes.
I have rent to pay, and the supermarket isn't free. Coding this has taken a great deal of time and effort, I can't continue to do it for nothing.

Why not have it advertising supported instead?

fee based is fine.. as long as its not liek $1000 bucks :P

any ideas on how much ? I'll go fund raising again..

Also, try getting on the google adwaords scheme.. put the ads in the webpage, yp pages and stick em in the 'view page' for like 5 seconds when tuning starts... starts to bring in cash i can assure you...
