I also don't like it because you must keep streamer running in the background.
I just think its an extra layer that you shouldn't need. You're using two programs to do the job of one. But i guess after awhile you get used to wacky work arounds with linux.

It is remarkably difficult to get a computer to do
an entirely new thing without actually
running a freaking program that performs this new task!. If you ever acheive this feat, patent it immediately and make a fortune. (and stealth installers don't count in this challenge).
Shoutcast(unicast) stations may well allow you to listen without an 'extra' program, but with shoutcast it is not possible to broadcast to 500+ people from an ordinary home broadband connection either. 500 listeners will cost you upwards of $200/month. So your
ever so slightly easier to listen to stations can not be done for large audiences by poor bedroom DJ's. And once Streamer is installed (extra 2 clicks needed), listening to any station takes one click on a web link, exactly one, no more or less than listening to a unicast stream with winamp. Why is this not good enough?
Why should not you need it?. How would you, as a programmer, acheive virtually free and unlimited listener broadcasting such as Streamer offers, without running any code?. You are running 2 programs to do the job of two. Streamer receives and relays raw stream data, winamp/(etc) plays it.
