Not sure if this can be configured to work on the same computer that you use to broadcast, [could use a second PC just for levelling when doing 'live' programming], but check out; www.burnill.co.uk for a neat multi band limiter developed by a Radio Caroline bod. This will sort differing levels and eq's [ironing out the 'lumps & bumps'] that different recordings obviously have, resulting in optimised levels and eq's, so your output level and audio is virtually constant whatever you bung though it. If only I'd had one of these when I was mastering at PolyGram!! :(

Rockradio,

Here is a good one and it is free. I use it for my community over the air FM radio station. Like you I use a seperate PC just for audio processing.

http://www.soundsolution.it/

Give it a try!

Have fun,

Hi Paul,

I tried Sound Solutions MBL over and over and over again, but it wasn't up to the job with rock music. I'm using a few of the DSP plug ins with Winamp but manipulating the levels manually - with another program, time consuming but the only way to do it. Might give MBL4 a go.

Cheers,

Bear.

I've been using the 1.31 Sound Solution on my stream for many months without issue. Like any good MLB, you can make it sound really bad without trying too hard. :)

Hi KMeat,

I downloaded V1.1 in December. [Where did you get the newer version from]? The author says that it's not suitable for all types of music - suits pop best apparently. The 17 second delay before hearing the results of 'tweeks' doesn't help, and after several frustrating days I vowed not to waste any more time on it.

Cheers,

Bear.

Well it would seem that the site has gotten quite busy and has exceeded it's bandwidth limitation for the month or whatever. It can however also be obtained from here: http://tmsweb.dnsalias.com/SoundSol.htm

As for the 17 second wait, that's only if you are using it with the Sqrsoft Crossfader also installed. If you use the Wave or Direct Sound output while you are testing settings, they happen in a couple of seconds.

Alex,

Are you talking about this? http://www.martinsound.com/pd_mmu.htm and if so, how does it compare to FREE? If this is NOT what you are talking about, then how about a link please so we can all see what you are talking about?

I'm using now StereoTool from http://www.hansvanzutphen.com/stereo_tool/
It's also free and the presets don't need much adjustment
(In combination with DSP Stacker)

Enjoy

Just in case any one wants to try MBL4
and cant be bothered to create there own preset for Ogg-Vorbis

Ive placed the Trance-Nation (Fast) preset
here:

http://www.kokopelli.pwp.blueyonder.co. ... SET_v1.zip

Should sound fine for Rock ;-)

This one does 99.9% of the limiting in the 4band processor "adv3" mode
(dual time constant processors on each of the bands)

With the input Parametric EQ being set to give extra punch at 95Hz
and a little peak at 2.5 Khz and rolls off above 5khz at 3db/Oct
( Just right for Drum and snappy highs's, withou sounding too crisp in ogg )

The Input AGC is configered just to handle source signal transients
on the input that happen to peak above +5db, else has little or no re-action.

enjoy..

" Not sure if this can be configured to work on the same computer that you use to broadcast "

Yes it can, this is how I run MBL4.

How-ever its a Stand-Alone Audio Processor
which means it requires multiple Soundcards

or better still " VAC " ( Virtual Audio Cable )

http://software.muzychenko.net/eng/vac.html
