hi - I actually think a lightened up version of what you already have would be ideal. Just a listen only version that:

- does NOT display stats of how many users are listening to each station
- does not have broadcast built in
- does not show ANY of the tech data
- does not have the chat room (or lets the broadcasters choose whether it should be on or not)

just a list of stations that you can click on to listen to and volume etc.

that way we could get listeners to download this light client from our websites.

i cant use it as it is now as it is too technical and will scare people away.

thanks - otherwise i think it is awesome!

that's right!
more users need to hear radio and nothing.
and broadcasters have big problem - explain for user how use this software.
and if broadcaster have little simple radio client (especially with their skin ;) ), they just make "download" link on site .

ps
bad english, aha :)

Hi,
i would leave the chat there. That's the benefit of streamer over the most other streaming solutions. Live and direct listener interaction / direct feedback. I hate to have a browser window open only cause i'm in the java/flash/whatever chat the station has there.

Just a striped down client without the broadcast option would be enough. Maybe with skins  requested often. The client is already "Light". 486kb download size is perfect.

Chat is cool!

Broadcasters need client with ONE button (or string) with their radio channel. hehe.

Station Name: SwanSong - Rock until you drop
This may surprise D-Tracks

But DoubleQ sysop/administrator @ SwanSong Trance~Nation

Also: A Long term user and broadcaster on StreamerP2P

From my support experiences here i can say the mayor problems for listeners are the bandwidth detection (isn't accurate sometimes), nat router handling (next version will have UPNP support), desktop / router firewalls, understanding the station list / finding stations / devider between online and "recently online" stations. No listener is interested in "recently online" stations. Too much information. There should be a option to switch this off (default: don't show offline stations). For me "recently online" is a interesting information.

I totaly agree streamer looks a bit "techy" and maybe scares people. A modern look and feel and a better GUI structure would be good. The streamer interface is overloaded with options and you better hide them in special submenues for broadcasters only.

The installer is flexible already. You can change the destination. It doesn't detect if a user have permissions for the installation target.

You can open the installstreamer.exe with 7zip and extract the 4 files whereever you want  It's just a NSIS package.

QQ is also right about a real server daemon for windows and linux.

All this is discussed several times already here in the forum. Nothing new and i don't say you are wrong :D

I'm waiting for the next release like all of you. Iain should hurry up a bit but i also prefer a good and stable program. Last release was Nov. 2006.

Would you pay for a cutomized listener only version? Auto tunes your station, displays your station logo / customized skin? Maybe other features i don't think about right now.

"You can change the destination."

Thats the part that I get a great deal of feedback on (mostly in MSN live chat)

Problem is, a great many modern PC users
have little knoledge of even something as simple as "changing the destination" when installing programs.

And when the "user" is presented
The Windows ( un-informative popup warning )

"The program is already running
select " [abort] [retry] [cancel]"

During installation to the default path,,

They are totally comfused
And simply give up trying after selecting "[retry]" a few times :-(

They usually DO NOT realise that this is a safe-guard to prevent them
Installing software beyond the limits of there [home]/[My Documents] sub-folders

Happy administrator (one less unauthorised program install to worry about)

Unhappy "user" ,,

Unhappy Streamer Broadcaster (one less new listener)

Regards 2xQ

Yes I would pay for a version which:
* Auto-tunes to my station.
* Only displays my station name and simple play/stop buttons.
* All other data & buttons should be removed.
* Customized skin (maybe customizable via HTML & CSS).
* Chat button would still be nice, especially if ther's UTF-8.

whom should I talk to?

Subscribing.

My question was hypothetically but i know Iain (the developper) is working on a commercial version at the moment. I don't know any details yet. Maybe talk to him about it 8) Or, what i hope, Iain release some pre-information here in the forum cause it's interesting for all of us.
