Hi Steamer Dudes

I like to suggest a new feature

Wouldnt it be useful/great

if streamer settings was able to automatically incert the unicast stream IP-Adresss
in " Alt pls IP/hostname/Full url:" under station broadcast settings.
when ever [config] [Advanced options] "Global Unicast" is Set/enabled.

Im unable to see why this isnt possiable,
as this url is normally formed from a combination of the IP-address & station ID +.pls
all of which are known or detected by streamer

To deal with those who dont require this feature, [because the direct stream comes from elsewere]
they just dont enable Global Unicast, and enter the stream URL manually.

Strange no comment or contribution from my fellow broadcasters or our Heavenly Master.

Personally feel that auto-insertion of the direct stream URL,
would make the software simpler to use ( especially for new broadcasters )

Guess no ones interested. ( shame )

The 'alt pls' entry is the url for a pls file for unicast listening, on a web server somewhere, and is only needed if you are using a seperate unicast server to Streamer.
If you are using Streamer to unicast, the pls file is served by Streamer itself in response to a http request. The url for this pls file is in url.txt, for pasting into web pages, and it also appears under the speaker icon on the YP. The 'alt pls' entry is just used to replace the link on the YP if it is set.

Another global unicast suggestion the option to set how much clients can listen over unicast so i dont need an extra sc_server and can do all my streaming (all in one :D )from the streamerp2p.

that option is there already...
take desired number of unicast listeners times bandwidth of stream then whatever percentage that number is of your upload limit: put that in "config>IP/port>bandwidth use>unicast"

so if your upload limit is 512 and your stream is 128 and you wish to allow 2 unicast listeners then you would put 50% in that box (well i would put 55-60% to allow for VBR stream and/or network overhead)

Think I need to Clarify

What I originally suggested was that streamer be able to automatically construct and incert the unicast stream URL

Simply becuse doing so manually is a burdensome task, riddled with the posibility for the user to make an error.

ie, not only does the user need to know the syntext for correctly constructing unicast URL

But,, they also have to know/find there numeric IP-address & Streamer-ID

(both of these being lenghty complex numeric values :-(

Ok, once they have obtained the knoledge, its possible to copy/paste everything over
in order to construct the URL

But as the software already has ALL this information & the auther knows the correct syntext

Wouldnt it be much easier (especially for an inexperienced user)

if as a default unicast setting, was to automatically construct & incert the unicast URL

And that:

There be a switch to overide/disable "auto'construct"ion

So that more experienced users are able to manually incert an alternative, should they wish to do so !

Its that simple.. ... ...

PS:
I also agree with the off-tread poster's,

it would be a nice option to be able to define the maxium number of listener's

would save doing the maths

off course one has to remember to allow for overheads/excursion to higher levels
especially if broadcasting using Ogg-Vorbis
which is why I asume Iain took the define by bandwidth root :-)

thou like I say, thou related, this is off'topic, .. hence off tread

Also:: futher/in'continuum

It would be nice if streamer detected when the IP-adress changed,
and automatically refreshed/re-constructed the "auto-constructed" unicast URL.

and [then] refreshed its entry in the Streamer Web Site

[ poor Iain ] 2xQ's has an ever increasing Xmas wish list :-)

PS:
I make both these suggestions purely as a means of simplifying the software
in order to make it more accessible to less experienced users !.
