You shouldn't have to open from the Lan to the WAN as that should work anyhow. I would not recommend to anyone that they use port 81 though as that could be being used by something else on your system. Maybe try 8080 and set it all up the same aside the LAN to WAN in the dlink there.
Problem Fixed - Maybe this will help others. Read on:
You're right about not needing LAN to WAN. I checked on the D-Link web site and it also said that all I needed was the WAN to LAN setting.
I tried changing the port to 8080 but the router complained that it was in use already. So I bumped it up to 8082. I can still bring up the sample page using
http://192.168.0.100:8082/playlist.cgi or
http://localhost:8082/playlist.cgi, which is fine for me to see that it's working on my side of the LAN. But I'm still having trouble figuring out how to get people on the Internet to get to it. I thought that using my static IP address would do it, but when I try
http://67.34.185.9:8082/playlist.cgi all I got was "Cannot find server - Page cannot be displayed" errors.
I knew these settings for the Song Requester plugin were right, so I figured something has to be wrong with my static IP address. I called BellSouth, who provides me with my DSL and static IP address. They guy was sorta stumped as to why it didn't work, either. He admitted that he was just guessing as we tried a few things, but we found that we had an incorrect setting on the router for WAN settings - it was set for dynamic IP address. We switched it to PPPoE, rebooted the router & modem, and now it looks ok.
